Macy Gray

Macy Gray put on a stunning performance with a full complex of high energy to slow and calm. This is the type of music that makes being a Light Designer a true joy! Most artists and DJs these days like to have their music pumping at 110% the whole show and this does work for performers like Gorge Clinton.

However, Macy Gray makes the job so much more dynamic when you can build and fall. Just like a rollercoaster, there are peaks and valleys that make the full ride an enjoyment. In Macy Grays performance she went through wardrobe changes mid-show allowing the band to work there magic.

Each band member bounced off one another as the song began as a balled and slowly built to the grand reveal of Macy coming on stage with her new outfit.

Some parts of the song were so slow and moody calling for the stage to be so dark and right with blues and purples almost turning lights of completely in some scenes only having a tight soft spotlight on Macy or her individual band members.

To then build back up to high energy with great interactions with the audience requiring audience lighting for Macy to interact with her audience.

Everything song in the show had a chance to build and the lighting with it. The wonderful part is you have a chance to enjoy the lighting and the music with the lights there is no unitary hairpin turns. Truly a luxury car ride or sight and sound.

For the finally a guest guitar player was brought out and like all the other songs the performance was built allowing dim, rich slow moving colors to blossom into bright fast moving joy. With yellows whites and fast-moving crowd lighting.

A wonderful challenge and workout of lighting and cant wait for her next performance.
