Luma Detroit is a proud vendor for many venues in the Detroit metro area. The historic Music Hall is home to many fantastic performances like Marlon Wayans. Luma Detroit provided lighting design for featured attractions at The Music Hall.
Our responsibility as a light designers is to communicate with the performers and understand the look and emotion they are trying to convey to the audience. This may include the timing of different lighting looks along with color and intensity that may also require motion at different tempos.
Lighting is like the colors of a brush painting on a canvas, without light you can not see the painting. With Marlon Wayans light design being a comedy, bright shades of colors are needed but not necessarily bright intensity.
As a light designer, you have to assist in telling the story of the performance but not take away from the performance. It is very easy to overpower the stage with too much intensity or movement.
In the case of Marlon Wayans light design a static look is required with lights facing the audience. These lights are to be used with crowd interaction or to give the performer the ability to see the reaction of their audience.
