Bethany MEN’s annual basketball tournament was recorded and streamed in real-time with 3 broadcast cameras. A primary wide-angle camera to capture overview court movement. secondary camera to cover fast player interactions and ball movement. The third camera, handheld, and wireless offer closeup fast-moving action shots with artistic positioning. All cameras connect to the Luma Detroit broadcast truck located outside of the venue.
The truck contains all the amenities found in a typical studio environment, RTS intercom / camera CCU control / broadcast switcher / graphics machines and more.
Live motion graphics were overlayed on the screen during gameplay containing player names and statistical information. Game score, time, and sponsor graphics were also incorporated.
Instant replay was also an important part of the event, allowing the ability to replay any part of the game in slow motion and make highlights of the gameplay. Highlights were played during halftime as end of game outro.
Each camera was recorded separately, allowing later edits to be made to the footage. All highlight clips and slow-motion replay are also recorded separately. This workflow allows for fast highlight and promotional packages to be made and distributed shortly after gameplay.
Live commentary provided engaging insight into gameplay with on-screen annotation graphics drawn on screen in real-time by the commentator.
With the Luma Detroit Broadcast Truck, essentially being a studio on wheels it makes setup time swift and reliable. Setup time was 4 hours from parking the truck to being show ready. Packing up and loading out only took a brief hour and a half from the end of the game to closing the doors and rolling down the road.
