Luma Detroit is proud to work with the great people at Lincoln Automotive!
This project was a unique challenge with tight time constraints. Luma Detroit’s responsibility was to add accent lighting to help accentuate the design of a new product to be filmed.
The facility where the recording would take place required precise planning of equipment and personnel. We were able to work with the wonderful facility managers and millwrights, assisting us to transfer equipment from the loading dock to our production area.
Equipment that was used for this project included aluminum truss towers with LED lighting attached to the tops of the towers. With a total of 24 lights were computer controlled and have the ability to change to any color & intensity that the client required for filming.
With so many lights, power requirements are always a concern but with LED lighting technology, we were able to run all 24 lights. Plus 2 more film lights for close-up interior lighting on only two 20 AMP circuits.
Unlike lighting live performances such as theater or concerts, we are lighting for the camera and not the eye. In this case, the focus is on what looks best for the camera. The challenge here is: something that may look good at a particular angle or in a particular lighting, may not read well to the camera. Like cooking a great meal mixing the right ingredients is key.
The environment that was used had existing fluorescent lighting that was our base. We needed to work inside that base. The cameras were calibrated to the fluorescent lighting color and any other accentuations or improvements needed to meld with that base color temperature.
We are certainly proud of the final product that will have a significantly large audience associated with a phenomenal brand.
